Congressman-Elect Dr. Steve Kagen Is Well Prepared For New Congress
Appleton, WI - Dr. Steve Kagen isn’t afraid of hard work. During his first 100 hours in Congress, the newly elected 8th District legislator will sponsor several essential acts to change the way business is done in Washington, as he begins to address the many problems confronting working families, senior citizens, small businesses, college students, family farmers and local municipalities all throughout Northeastern Wisconsin.
“Over and over again during my campaign, I asked you to choose hope, not hate. And you did - with a resounding victory for a new direction and positive change. It is now time to put partnership ahead of partisanship as we make our nation more secure, balance our federal budget, raise the minimum wage, and fix our nation’s health care crisis. As I stated to you in my campaign, this is our very own shared agenda,” said Dr. Kagen.
”Whether I earned your vote or not, I have been working hard to earn your trust. In January, we have a chance to change the way business is done in Washington and build a better nation for everyone,” he continued.
Dr. Kagen went on to say that, “On my first day in Congress, I will be sponsoring legislation to restore faith in our governing process by demanding higher ethical standards for all elected officials. We will ban gifts and luxury trips paid for by lobbyists, stop the use of corporate jets by members of Congress, and require full disclosure of all earmarks. We will restore open and honest government that works for the people, not the special interests.”
“On my first day in Congress, I will also be sponsoring legislation to lower prescription drug costs for Medicare patients by allowing our government to negotiate steeper discounts from drug manufacturers, restore fiscal responsibility, cut interest rates in half on student loans, raise the minimum wage, support stem cell progress, make our nation more secure by implementing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, invest in renewable energy sources and end taxpayer-funded giveaways to big oil companies.”
Kagen concluded by saying, ”It is time to lead America in a new direction, and Together, We Will.”
Dr. Kagen continues to see patients during his tour of duty as Wisconsin’s 8th District Congressman, having earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and founded the Kagen Allergy Clinics in Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac. He also serves as an assistant clinical professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and has earned an international reputation for his work in identifying news causes of allergy and asthma.
